Veterinarians not only protect animals but also play a crucial role in safeguarding society and human beings. To honor their contributions and to celebrate diversity, World Veterinary Day will be held on April 29 this year. This day recognizes and honors the lifesaving work done by veterinarians all around the globe. In essence, it also highlights the amazing contributions made by the talented group of veterinarians worldwide, thus promoting stellar inclusiveness.

Vets do so much more than just ‘save’ the pets. They impact society in a thousand unimaginable ways. The diversity and equity associated with this profession are remarkable. They ensure the health of animals, people, and the environment. The day also showcases the profession’s role in the well-being of pets and communities throughout the world.

Here are some reasons that showcase the exemplary role of vets in society:

Veterinarians are appointed by the state to inspect the health of animals brought into the country

They supervise shipments, test for life-threatening diseases that could threaten humans and pets, and work tirelessly to eradicate them. With the help of these specialists, only healthy animals enter our food supply system. World Veterinary Day – April 29, is conducted annually to pay tribute to these doctors.

Vets are amongst the kindest and most selfless people in the world

They work in tough environments to combat diseases that can be deadly for animals and humans. In addition, they also ensure public security by acting as the first line of defense against life-threatening diseases transmitted from animals. They treat pets and ensure that human beings are protected from all the harmful illnesses that could affect both animals and people. Some of these diseases include; rabies, Cat Scratch disease, Valley fever, West Nile virus, and avian flu.

Veterinary societies are responsible for supervising the processing and distribution of food of animal origin

They work tirelessly to ensure the health and welfare of livestock so that only the best food enters our food chain system. Moreover, they also play a major role in looking after meat and dairy products to make them safe for human consumption.

The FDA considers vets’ contributions

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) also appreciates their achievements by appointing them to evaluate pet foods, additives, and zoological medicines.

Vets make medical discoveries

In addition to safeguarding the food supply system, vets also make life-changing medical discoveries. They research and study extensively to develop new drugs and prevent health disorders from occurring in both animal and human populations.

Vets are lifesavers

We are sure every pet owner can relate to this. Animals go through numerous skin conditions, stomach issues, and viral or bacterial infections. They need to be treated timely to prevent the disease from proving fatal. This is where vets come to the rescue! They diagnose, test, and prescribe medicines to prevent the hazardous effects of disease damaging the animal’s health. Moreover, they also vaccinate the pets to ensure their health and safety.

On this World Veterinary Day – April 29, we would like to thank South Hyland veterinarians for their commitment to the veterinary community, pets, and environment. The diversity, fairness, and equity make them stand out in this noble profession.
