Community Support and Assistance

Caring for a pet is an important responsibility, but unexpected financial difficulties, transportation challenges, or changes in personal circumstances can sometimes make accessing essential supplies and veterinary care more difficult.

At South Hyland Pet Hospital, we understand how important pets are to the people who love them. We’ve gathered information about local organizations, financial assistance programs, and services that may help pet owners overcome some of these challenges and continue providing the care their pets need.

Veterinary Financial Assistance

Veterinary expenses can sometimes be unexpected or difficult to manage. Several nonprofit organizations offer financial assistance programs for qualifying pet owners who need help covering the cost of veterinary care.

Each organization has its own eligibility requirements, application process, and funding limitations. We encourage pet owners to explore the programs below to determine which may best fit their circumstances.

Animal Care Foundation of Minnesota (ACF)

The Animal Care Foundation of Minnesota helps qualifying seniors, individuals with disabilities, and those with limited financial resources access veterinary care through participating clinics.

Assistance may be available for routine veterinary services, treatment of illnesses or injuries, and other necessary medical care.

Best suited for: Qualifying Minnesota residents age 65 or older, or individuals with disabilities, who meet the program’s financial eligibility requirements.

Minnesota Humane Society – Veterinary Assistance Grants

The Minnesota Humane Society offers veterinary assistance grants to qualifying Minnesota residents who need financial help obtaining medical treatment for their pets.

These grants are intended to assist with the treatment of illnesses and injuries rather than routine preventive services such as vaccinations or spaying and neutering.

Best suited for: Minnesota pet owners experiencing financial hardship whose pets require medical treatment for an illness or injury.

RedRover Relief – Urgent Care Grants

RedRover Relief provides financial assistance to qualifying pet owners whose animals require urgent, potentially lifesaving veterinary treatment.

These grants are generally intended to help bridge a financial gap when an owner has some funds available but needs additional assistance to proceed with necessary medical care.

Best suited for: Pet owners facing unexpected veterinary expenses related to a life-threatening illness or injury.

The Pet Fund

The Pet Fund provides financial assistance to qualifying pet owners who need help covering veterinary treatment expenses, particularly for nonurgent medical conditions that can be addressed through planned care.

Because the application process may involve a waiting period, this program is generally more appropriate for medical needs that do not require immediate treatment.

Best suited for: Pet owners seeking assistance with nonurgent veterinary treatment, ongoing medical conditions, or specialized care.

Important Information About Financial Assistance

Financial assistance programs are operated independently, and eligibility, funding availability, application requirements, and approval timelines vary. Grants are not guaranteed, and some programs may require veterinary records, treatment estimates, or additional documentation.

Pet owners are responsible for contacting these organizations directly, completing applications, and obtaining any necessary approvals. Please discuss any approved financial assistance with our team before scheduling treatment so that payment arrangements and program requirements can be reviewed.

Veterinary Payment & Financing Options

In addition to nonprofit financial assistance programs, South Hyland Pet Hospital accepts several third-party financing options that may help make veterinary expenses more manageable.

These options allow qualifying clients to apply for financing and potentially spread the cost of veterinary care over time, subject to approval and the financing provider’s terms.

We accept payment through Cherry, CareCredit, Scratchpay and All Pet Card.

Visit our Payment Options page to learn more about accepted payment methods, available financing options, and our hospital’s payment policies.

Please note: Cherry, CareCredit, Scratchpay, and All Pet Card are independent third-party financing providers and are not affiliated with South Hyland Pet Hospital. All applications, eligibility determinations, approvals, and financing arrangements are handled directly by the respective providers. Our team is unable to assist with the application process or resolve questions regarding financing decisions, account terms, or payments. Please contact the financing provider directly for assistance.

Additional Veterinary Care Options

We understand that financial circumstances can sometimes make obtaining necessary veterinary care difficult, even after exploring available grants and financing options.

For pet owners experiencing significant financial hardship, the following organizations may offer additional options for obtaining necessary veterinary care.

Mission Animal Hospital – Eden Prairie, MN

Mission Animal Hospital is a nonprofit veterinary hospital offering income-based, donor-subsidized pricing programs for qualifying households.

These facilities operate independently of South Hyland Pet Hospital. Services, eligibility requirements, appointment availability, and pricing vary. Pet owners should contact each organization directly for additional information.

Pet Food & Essential Supplies

If you’re experiencing financial hardship or having difficulty obtaining food or essential supplies for yourself or your pet, local assistance programs and community donations may be able to help.

SHPH Community Donation Bin – Take What You Need, Leave What You Can

At South Hyland Pet Hospital, we believe that even small acts of kindness can make a meaningful difference in our community.

We maintain a community donation bin at our hospital where clients and team members can contribute items for people and pets in need. Donations may include pet food, pet supplies, nonperishable human food, personal care items, toiletries, and other everyday essentials.

Our donation bin operates on a simple principle: Take what you need, leave what you can

If you’re in need of something from the bin, you’re welcome to take any available items that may be helpful to you or your pet. There’s no obligation to donate or give anything in return.

If you’d like to contribute, we welcome donations of useful, unopened, and unexpired items.

Donated items are periodically collected and delivered to VEAP (Volunteers Enlisted to Assist People), a local nonprofit organization serving individuals and households in need throughout our community.

Whether you’re giving a little or taking something you need, we appreciate everyone who helps make this community effort possible!

Pet Transportation Services

We understand that not everyone has access to reliable transportation. Whether you no longer drive, have limited transportation options, or need assistance getting your pet to an appointment, independent pet transportation services may provide a helpful alternative.

Pet-TaxiCab LLC – Bloomington, MN

Pet-TaxiCab is a locally owned pet transportation service offering transportation to veterinary appointments, grooming appointments, and other pet-related destinations throughout the Twin Cities metro area.

Pet owners can contact Pet-TaxiCab directly to discuss transportation needs, availability, service areas, and pricing.

Contact Information:

Phone: (763) 340-4282

Email: pet.taxicabs@gmail.com

Pet-TaxiCab is an independently operated business and is not affiliated with South Hyland Pet Hospital. All transportation arrangements, scheduling, and payments must be coordinated directly between the pet owner and the transportation provider.

South Hyland Pet Hospital – House Call Services

For established clients who have difficulty traveling to our hospital, we also offer House Call appointments for certain veterinary services that can appropriately be provided in the comfort of your home.

House Calls may be especially helpful for pets who experience significant stress during travel, owners with mobility or transportation limitations, or situations where an in-home veterinary visit may be more comfortable.

Because some examinations, diagnostics, and treatments require equipment or resources available only at our hospital, House Calls may not be appropriate for every situation. Availability and additional service fees apply.
