Fall is a fantastic time of year to enjoy cooler weather, pumpkin flavored food, and spend time with your pets. It can be tricky to keep them safe, with the days ending earlier and less time to play outdoors. But protecting your pet with a few extra safety precautions will make the day easier to enjoy.
Don’t Leave Them Out After Dark
It can be easy to see your paw-pal having fun in the dog park or running around in the grass and be tempted to leave them out a little longer. But leaving your pet out at night can make them vulnerable to predators and well-meaning neighbors who might take them inside.
If your pet accidentally gets lost outside, make sure the identification tag on their collar is up-to-date. You can also ensure their microchip has your information too. Your pet loves feeling safe inside with you.
Keep Them Away From the Campfire
Your pet can be drawn to the warmth of a fire. They may also see food falling into it, or a marshmallow being roasted and be tempted to be more daring and careless than they mean to be. Securing your pet a safe distance away from the fire pit will ensure they don’t accidentally get hurt.
You can also put your pet to bed early in a camper or tent if the evening is particularly cold. Teaching your pet to stay clear of fire pits before it’s ever ignited, is another way to keep them safe. If they know it’s an off-limits zone, they’ll be careful when the fire is lit.
Illuminate Your Pet
Attaching a battery-operated light on their collar can help you see your furry friend at night. Finding a small light means that it can stay attached all the time. Before going outside, all you need to do is click it on, and your pet is illuminated for passersby to see.
If they enjoy roaming the backyard alone, or you have to cross the street for them to do their business, then having a light provides optimum support. Collar lights are also great for camping. There are other critters out there and you don’t want your pet to get lost or confused. Having a reflective vest or collar can provide an extra layer of protection for you and your pet.
Fur-Get Allergies
Dogs get seasonal allergies too. Allergens are mostly ignited by ragweed, but mold, mildew, and fungi can impact your pet too. If your pet is sneezing, rubbing their face on the carpet, or losing hair from intense allergies, come see us. We can help your pet remain itch-free, so they can frolic in the leaves with their tail-wagging.
Have a Happy Paw-tober
Your pet’s health and happiness are our number one priority. Enjoy fall with peace of mind, and safety measures to protect your pet. They’re a member of your family, and we treat them like ours. If your pet needs a health checkup, allergy recommendations, or you want to come by to see us, we’ll always be here to ensure they’re in good hands.
