Dog Training

Positive, science-based training for confident, well-mannered dogs

At South Hyland Pet Hospital, we are pleased to partner with The Dog Evolved, a team of certified professional trainers who provide life-skills training and behavior modification grounded in modern animal learning theory. Their work follows the humane, science-based standards of the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior (AVSAB), ensuring training that is both effective and respectful of your dog’s emotional well-being.

Recommended Training Options

Puppy Classes & Playgroups

Guide your puppy through their critical socialization period with age-appropriate play, confidence-building experiences, and foundational skills that build your bond and help create a well-adjusted adult dog.

Life Skills Classes (All Ages)

Group classes that cover essential everyday behaviors such as sit, stay, recall (coming when called), loose-leash walking, leave-it, and more—helping dogs succeed in everyday life.

Private Training Sessions

Ideal for specific concerns or individualized goals. One-on-one sessions allow your trainer to create a structured, step-by-step plan tailored to you and your dog.

Support for Fearful or Anxious Dogs

Training designed to identify the underlying causes of fear or anxiety and gently modify your dog’s emotional responses, helping them feel safer and more confident.

Veterinary Handling & Grooming Support

Trainers and veterinarians work together to support dogs during veterinary visits and grooming tasks such as nail trims and exams. Some trainers can attend comfort visits and provide customized husbandry-training plans.

Our Training Approach

Our training partners are committed to:

Science-Based Methods

Grounded in the latest research in animal learning and behavior.

Force-Free Training

Focused on teaching dogs what to do, without harsh corrections or aversive tools such as prong collars, choke chains, or shock collars.

Tailored Plans

Training programs are customized to your dog’s needs and your specific goals.

Collaborative Support

You, your dog, and your trainer work as a team. You will learn how to continue progress at home and maintain your dog’s skills long-term.

Why We Recommend These Trainers

Certified, Educated Professionals

Our training partners hold certifications and education from programs recognized by veterinary professionals. They actively pursue continuing education to stay current with the latest research in animal learning and behavior.

Stronger Human–Dog Relationships

Training is not just about cues—it is about connection. Our trainers provide education, enrichment ideas, and thoughtfully designed training plans to help build trust, communication, and confidence for you and your dog.

Prevention and Problem-Solving

A strong focus on prevention helps reduce the likelihood of future behavior challenges. From safety skills to addressing reactivity or aggression, trainers teach foundational cues that help prevent issues before they escalate. Training also reduces common challenges like jumping, leash pulling, and ignoring cues—making everyday life with your dog more enjoyable.
