A Big Step Forward for Veterinary Care in Minnesota
Starting July 1, 2026, Minnesota will officially transition from Certified Veterinary Technicians (CVTs) to Licensed Veterinary Technicians (LVTs) — and this is a big deal for our profession and for your pets.
This change provides title protection, meaning only individuals who have:
- Graduated from an accredited veterinary technology program
- Passed national board examinations
- Met state licensing requirementswill be able to use the title Veterinary Technician.
will be able to use the title Veterinary Technician.
CVT = LVT
The role and level of care don’t change — but the recognition does. Licensure formally acknowledges the education, skill, and dedication of the veterinary technicians who care for your pets every day.
At South Hyland Pet Hospital, we’re proud to support this important advancement and to celebrate our incredible technicians who have worked so hard to earn this professional recognition.
Thank you for trusting our team with your pet’s care!
